Individual Sessions

Using techniques rooted in story telling and relationship to body; individual sessions are a time for inner exploration, that allows us to see ourselves as multifaceted and to develop curiosity and compassion for all of the ways our parts show up. When we learn that parts of us are “unacceptable,” we can spend a lifetime cut off from the very things that make us human.

This is a time of exploration that allows us to be seen and heard in all that we are, so that we can begin to understand the ways we are in relationship with others and the world. We will incorporate understanding of how the world we live in deeply impacts our view of ourselves and will work to move outside of confinement and towards ourselves and others.

“Perhaps, as we say in America, I wanted to find myself. This is an interesting phrase, not current as far as I know in the language of any other people, which certainly does not mean what it says but betrays a nagging suspicion that something has been misplaced. I think now that if I had any intimation that the self I was going to find would turn out to be only the same self from which I had spent so much time in flight, I would have stayed at home.”

Somatic Breathwork

SO·MAT·IC. / SƏˈMADIK / ADJ - Somatic, or Soma, comes from ancient Greek and is commonly translated as “the body.” However, the ancient Greeks didn’t distinguish between body, mind, and spirit—In their eyes, all aspects of our being-ness are one. Soma encompasses the full experience of what it is to be human. We are more than mechanical physical bodies; we have a spiritual aspect of our being, a mental aspect, an emotional aspect. While the Greeks are credited for the language of “Somatic,” breathwork is a practice that has been around for thousands of years and viewed as a healing modality in Buddhism, Taoism, Shamanism, and across multiple indigenous people of Africa, South American and Australia.

We were born into the world as feeling beings.  To become sensitive is to become more alive. Sensitivity is to be full of sensation and sensory awareness.  When we have long-term instinctive defense responses embedded within our nervous system from chronic stressors, they numb our ability to feel the full spectrum of being alive.

Some people have called this a “living death” because, when we cut ourselves off from feeling, we become both numb to the highs and lows of life and this is represented as a flat line experience.

Numbness is an active process, meaning that it drains our nervous system energy to maintains the state of being numb.  It takes more energy from our nervous system to repress or suppress because feeling and sensing is our natural state.

Somatic Breathwork is a guided, deep breathing process of moving your body through nervous system states. This process brings more awareness to your body and emotional experiences, allowing room for expression.

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting—
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

FAQS

Do I need to remember my dreams in order to participate?

  • No - we will work with waking dreams, for those who do not remember their dreams. We will also learn techniques to create more awareness of our dreams, and cultivate ways to remember them as time passes.

Is dreamwork the same as dream analysis?

  • A lot of us have familiarity with the idea of dream analysis, basically prescriptive ideas of what dream content means. Dreamwork does not prescribe any one meaning or conclusion to dreams and instead uses themes, symbols, myths and stories throughout and across time and cultures to connect to meaning.

Will I need to supply my own materials?

  • You will need to supply your own artistic supplies. I will supply resources for symbols, themes, myths, etc.

What is the group size?

  • Group size will range from 5-10 people

In remembrance and honor of Pat Sablatura and all of those who visit us in our dreams.

“As these are times of persistent de-symbolization and de-sacralization, humankind is understandably searching for a collective mythology of meaning to make sense of it all. After all, one of the greatest pretenses achieved by modern history is the repudiation of collective dreams for the pre-packaged spectacle of the American Dream. But by turning inward – and understanding the relationship between self within the collective ecology of the unconscious – can the universal birthright of dreaming be reclaimed as the ultimate creative force. To recognize the fundamental influence of dreaming to the evolution of human consciousness is to build a new universal ethic of being, meaning and of relationship to the larger world and environment. It is to essentially liberate an ethic founded on affirming life’s interdependence and aspire for a collective, co-creative dreaming to honor life in all its unknowable multiplicity.”

All offerings utilize a sliding scale model.  I trust your discernment of your current financial situation and how you fit into the global economic context. This model is designed for those with more access to wealth to help cover the cost for those with less access.

As you decide what amount to pay, please consider your present-day financial situation governed by income, but also the following factors:

historical discrimination faced by your peoples; your financial wealth (retirement/savings/investments); your access to income and financial wealth, both current and anticipated (how easily could you earn more income compared to other people in your community, country, and the world; are you expecting an inheritance); people counting on your financial livelihood including dependents and community members; the socio-economic conditions of your locale (relative to other places in your country and in the world); your relationship to food & resource scarcity, anticipated frequency of sessions.

*This payment model is inspired by and borrowed from the payment model of Bayo Akomolafe’s class, We Will Dance With Mountains: Into the Cracks, as seen in Renee Sills work at Embodied Astrology.

It is my preference not to use insurance, however, I understand that insurance provides more access to services for many. For that reason, I am in network with most major insurance providers in Colorado and am able to accept insurance for Individual therapy.

For those who choose to utilize the sliding scale model, I am able to offer a "Super Bill" for individual therapy services, which you can submit to your insurance company as an "Out of Network" service for potential reimbursement.

Let’s work together.
